Alice makes a marvelous trip t

Two of the most beloved classic novels happen to be Lewis Carroll's whimsical set of tales: "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass."

replica breitling watches

Director Tim Burton adds his spin of creativity and suspenseful, imaginative twists to the traditional tale in his new film version, "Alice in Wonderland."

As a child, Alice Kingsley has reoccurring nightmares of a place she calls "Wonderland," and fears that she has "gone round the bend." Her charming father, however, assures her that the best of people are imaginative.

The story unfolds to have a 19-year-old, independently feminist Alice (Mia Wasikowska) being pressured to marry the Lord Hamish, who is horribly drab and dull. From the beginning, Burton cleverly relates all of the Victorian-age characters to the beloved classic characters from the book.

Surprisingly, a lot of the film directly ties in with the familiar tale. Many intricate details are not left out, warming the atmosphere of the film. Alice still thinks of six impossible things before breakfast, and finds allies in the beloved characters. The Cheshire Cat still has a smile large enough to make you grin, and the Unbirthday Party is yet again quite a performance.

However, the familiar lines fade into a sexy lingerie china haze as the plot wears on. The Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) has an alarmingly grotesque way of ruling her court, far more detailed than the original version portrays. The Knave of Hearts also seems to have a bit too pronounced of a part than tolerable. The Jabberwocky has a bit more of a part than in the normal version of Alice, yet it is to be expected with Burton, a director partial to dark humor.

It is also slightly upsetting to find that the Hatter (Johnny Depp) seems to have almost a bit more of a part than Alice. Although Depp is a well-loved actor, he seems to put Alice in the shadows when he takes the stage. It's no wonder even the "Alice in Wonderland" movie poster featured the Mad Hatter's face.

Highlights are the lovely set, which was perfectly surreal and fantastical. The numerous creatures also are well portrayed, even the few new lovable heroes. It is no doubt that some of the actors and actresses nailed their parts.

Depp does amazingly well with his mischievousness, and Mia Wasikowska is just as dreamy and curious as Alice. However, the perfectly cast part has to be Ann Hathaway as the White Queen, playing her part of eloquent royalty beyond expectations.

The most unexplained portion of the film was the silly jig the story seemed to be set around, which the Hatter will only do if the White Queen once again regains the crown. It did not seem fitting to put in a nonsensical bout of a break-dancing sort, while leaving out Dinah and a few other principal events.

In truth, the movie should be rated PG-13, due to some extremely frightening situations. It definitely would not be recommended to take young children to the movie, for fear of nightmares. Burton did not fail to add in his usual bout of dark undertones.

Overall, the movie was brilliant in concept, magically combining the fairy tale of hopes and dreams in "Peter Pan," putting a spin on the original "Alice in Wonderland" and mixing it into a lovely resemblance of "The Chronicles of Narnia."

But, who could ever tell what will happen in Underland? After all, it just gets curiouser and curiouser. http://mywatches.bloggey.se/2010/02/03/money-pound-notes/

(Roundup) Williams feels like in a bubble while Norway continues winning in skiing (Day 7)

Clip on charms

VANCOUVER, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- When Amy Williams felt like in a bubble after she won the first individual gold for Britain in Winter Olympics in 30 years on Friday, Norwegian skiiers continued their dominance in skiing with victories in men's Super-G and women's cross country skiing.

After winning heat 1 and heat 3, Williams setup her winning status in women's skeleton with an oveall clocking of three minutes 35.64 seconds in four runs. With the gold, she became the first British winter Olympian to win an individual event since figure skater Robin Cousins in 1980. She is also the first female British winter Olympic champion in an individual event since figure skater Jeanette Altwegg won gold in 1952.

"I can't believe it happened. It feels like I'm in a buble," said Williams. "I've not got a clue (how it feels). I'll find out when I wake up."

However, several teams including the United States and Canada filed a protest about the aerodynamics of Williams helmet and race officials were expected to discuss it late Friday.

Don Krone, a spokesman for the International Federation of Bobsleigh and Tobogganing, said he expected the protest would be rejected.

The United States filed a protest, but judges of the tournament turned it down and gave Williams green light to take part in the race.

Norwegian skiiers kept their prowess on the snow with Aksel Lund Svindal winning the men's Alping skiing Super-G and Marit Bjoergen taking the women's cross country 15km pursuit.

Svindal, a two-time World Cup overall champion, started 19th on the fast and bumpy course and showed his overall technical skills to win the gold in one minute 30.34 seconds.

"The Olympic Games are probably the biggest thing you can do as an athlete. I was pretty happy with silver (in the men's downhill), but gold is a little bit better," he said.

Norway has now won the Super-G for the third straight Olympic Games and has claimed four of the seven gold medals in the event since it was first introduced at the Calgary 1988 Olympic Winter Games.

American skiiers Bode Miller and Andrew Weibrecht finished second and third respectively.

Swiss and Austrian favourites, including downhill gold medalist Didier Defago of Switzerland and current World Cup overall leader Benjamin Raich of Austria could not find enough speed on the challenging track and will have to set their sights on Sunday's super combined event.

In women's cross country 15km pursuit, Bjoergen made it double gold after leading for most of the race to win the event.

Bjoergen, who won the women's individual sprint on Wednesday, dominated the hills throughout the race, was steady on the downhills and attached the sharp corners with confidence during the four 3.7km laps.

Anna Haag of Sweden finished with silver and Justyna Kowalczyk of Poland finished third.

Defending champion Kristina Smigun-Vaehi of Estonia did not finish the race, stopping during the classical portion in lap two.

Bjoergen is the second Norwegian woman to win at least two gold medals at the Olympic Winter Games, behind figure skater Sonja Henie.

Thomas sabo charms

The 2010 Asian Games will stage three events of flyweight, lightweight and middleweight for the women boxers across the continent after rounds of consultation between the organizing committee and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), said the Chinese sports official.

In last August, the International Olympic Committee decided to include women's boxing for the first time in the Olympic Games in 2012.

Women's boxing, which first came to prominence in England in 1720, only appeared as a demonstration sport at the 1904 Olympics.

The Asian Games, the second-largest sports event in the world after the Summer Olympics, will be held in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, which attracts more than 14,000 athletes, coaches and officials from 45 countries and regions.

In August 2008, the OCA sanctioned the 464 events for the Games as proposed by the organizing committee, which made the adjustment to 473 in July 2009.

Later on, the OCA made further request to add more events to the Games and the final number of 476 events was agreed on with the inclusion of women's boxing and kabadi, the Chinese official revealed.

Li further explained that many women replica hublot watches events will make their debut at the Asian Games, including kabaddi, polo, cricket, roller skating, dragon boat, go-chess, chinese chess and boxing.
