Pakistan regards ties with China as cornerstone of foreign policy, says visiting FM
BEIJING, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday hailed the relations with China, saying that this bilateral friendship was the cornerstone of the country's foreign policy.
"The story of Pakistan-China friendship holds important lessons in developing harmony and friendship among nations," the minister said in a speech Lace front wigs at the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS).
China and Pakistan established diplomatic relationship in 1951. "Our partnership now spans over five decades. It is marked by harmony, vibrancy and vitality." Qureshi said.
The minister said the friendship with China was a living example of the Confucian philosophy of "harmony without uniformity".
He explained that "we have different political systems, different cultures and different traditions. Yet together we have created a beautiful mosaic vibrant with color and warmth."
"It is not a mere hyperbole when we say that the friendly ties between Pakistan and China are a model for other countries, with hair extensions wholesale diverse systems, to emulate. It is a reality." he said.
Applauding China's support and understanding to Pakistan on various regional and international issues, Qureshi said Pakistan supports the one-China policy and condemns any attempt to undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
As to the expectation for the growth of bilateral ties, he said "we desire to further our economic relations and make them commensurate with our political relations."
The two countries have pledged to raise the bilateral trade to 15 billion U.S. dollars in the coming years. More than 120 Chinese companies and ten thousand Chinese workers are working in Pakistan on projects ranging from mining and energy exploration to infrastructure development and manufacturing.
In the speech titled "Pakistan's Challenges and Our Response", the minister also elaborated the country's "enormous effort" to fight against terrorism.
"Our counter-terrorism strategy is based on
embroidered patches three Ds, Development, Dialogue and Deterrence." He said their counterterrorist operations in the region have been persistent but paced.
In 2009, the Pakistani security forces had conducted major operation against the Taliban-linked militants in Swat. A full scale operation in South Waziristan, bordering Afghanistan, launched in October 2009 has also been successful.
According to Qureshi, in the operations more than 7,000 terrorists have been killed and about 9,000 miscreants apprehended.
Conservative estimates shows that in the past 8 year, Pakistan have lost more than 50 billion U.S. dollars in the prosecution of the war against terrorism, Qureshi noted.
"The people of Pakistan have paid a terrible price for fighting this threat but our resolve is unshaken because we understand better than anyone else that defeat is not an option," he said.
As to Pakistan-India relations, the minister said "Pakistan government is seriously working to improve relations with India, and we seek peaceful settlement of all outstanding disputes."
