The tenth edition of NBA Live, from virtual sports giant EA Sports, seems to be the most authentic yet. With crazy gameplay advancements, Dynamic DNA that reflects real-time behaviour and stats of all players, insanely over-the-top branding (with over 500 different shoes and jerseys to choose from), the designers have gone out of their way to make sure this is as good as the real thing.

So what's new this time round? Well, for one, 2010's got more intensive hustle playing. Now, players actually make the effort to get to the ball whenever it's close to lying dead. But what's perhaps the craziest improvement is the players and the teams themselves. The team strategy and gameplay closely reflect the actual team, so now, playing as the Lakers and the Clippers are two very different experiences. For example, if you're playing as the Cleveland Cavaliers, you will be running a lot of isolations just to push Le-Bront to the forefront.

Each player has been remodelled from scratch to reflect even their individual quirks, right down to tattoos and swagger.

NBA Live 10 has two new game modes. The NBA Live Run, a schoolyard version of the game that multiple players can jump into, and the Dynamic Season, where you actually play a season real-time . They have also introduced a new practice area, revamping the mode from the NBA Live 2009 version, introducing a new locale called the Hangar. All in all, this is one title any b-ball gamer should be excited about, because this is as real as it gets. And we can bet LeBront would say the same thing.

THE KING OF FIGHTERS XII Marking the 15th anniversary of the King of Fighters franchise, SNK Playmore recently released the 12th edition of the Fighter and the credo seems to be back to the basics. Titled Rebirth, KoF XII is a complete throwback to the original days of 2D gaming, complete with totally redesigned character sprites (avatars) and elaborate combo moves.

However, there still seem to be a lot of gaps that the developers have overlooked which, at the end of the day, are a trifle annoying.

Designwise, SNK scores points for the crisp animation. And the detailing of each sprite, all hand-drawn down to the very last hair, is very high! But the intense work on each sprite coupled with time constraints seems to have taken its toll, as the roster has been limited to 20 players - the lowest in an edition in the history of the brand.

On top of it, the developers have also left Mai, one of the most popular (and sexiest) avatars, out of the game. Of course this is justified to a point, as the 12th edition doesn't feature a storyline but opts to continue the plot from the 2003 edition in a separate sequel. Another drawback: the limited stages you can choose to play in, all of which reek of heavy racial stereotyping which can be quite irksome.

Another minus factor is the limited number of modes: with no storyline or even survival rounds, all you can really do is engage in simple singleplayer , tournament-style good ol' 2D brawling. There is a multiplayer mode, but with major time lags it resembles a slideshow rather than a turbocharged videogame. The tournament mode is more than enough fun, though, and that's where the game really scores.

With a hardcore attack system in place, which also incorporates some intense counter attacks and combo moves, each match you win is a very satisfying victory. The usual evasive duck-and-roll system is still integral to fighting in this title; the more you master it, the better
